American Horror Story season 12 will feature a first for the anthology series. The most recent season of AHS, subtitled NYC, aired in October and November 2022. Since then, there have been few details about season 12. However, it’s been revealed that it will feature The Resident star Matt Czuchry and returning cast member Emma Roberts, who’s appeared in five past seasons. Perhaps more surprising is the addition of Kim Kardashian, who will star alongside the other two and likely other actors who will be announced in the lead-up to season 12.
Per THR, American Horror Story season 12, subtitled Delicate, is at least partially based on a novel, marking the first time a season of the show hasn’t been centered on a new story. The book by Danielle Valentine is called Delicate Condition and is said to be “a gripping thriller about a woman who becomes convinced that a sinister figure is going to great lengths to make sure her pregnancy never happens.” The novel releases in August 2023.
Why A Change Is Smart For American Horror Story Season 12
With American Horror Story having premiered in 2011, at this point, the show needs to mix things up to remain fresh for viewers. When the series debuted, its content was considered shocking and unlike anything seen on TV before. However, in the years since television has expanded by leaps and bounds, routinely catching audiences off guard with surprising twists and gruesome stories.
Going into season 12, American Horror Story is wise to try something different, using the work of someone unconnected to the franchise as its base. While the novel’s description suggests the story will fit right into American Horror Story‘s world, it will likely bring something new to the table as well, depending on just how much the show relies on the book. It’s possible it will serve as more of an inspiration for the season than the show creating a faithful adaption.
Kardashian’s casting likewise suggests American Horror Story is looking to branch out in season 12. With little acting experience under her belt, she’s an interesting choice that could make the upcoming season stand out even more. Of course, with Roberts returning as well, the new episodes will likely still feel familiar to American Horror Story viewers.
