Although the Big Brother game does not officially start until the players move into the house on premiere night, pre-gaming sometimes takes place prior to the start of the season, which can ultimately affect how the overall game plays out. Pre-gaming isn’t super common but has come up a few times in the history of the show. While it happens more when a season includes reoccurring players, pre-gaming can take place during any Big Brother season.
Big Brother season 25 is fast approaching as the series premieres in the summer. Rumors have swirled that Big Brother 25 will include past houseguests. Since the upcoming season will be such a milestone for the show, it has been speculated that some of the fan-favorite past houseguests will return to the game in a second chances season. Other rumors claim that the new season will include both past houseguests as well as brand-new players. None of the rumors have been confirmed nor denied by production.
Big Brother Pre-Gaming Takes Place Before The Season Starts
While it is intended for players to have no contact or discussion regarding the Big Brother game before the start of the season, this is not always the case. In the past, there have been players who pre-gamed a season of the show. This means they discussed game techniques and plans with other players prior to moving into the Big Brother house. They may also form alliances in advance. This is most common when players return for a second season. In fact, pre-gaming is one of the causes of the ongoing feud between Janelle Pierzina and Nicole Franzel. Nicole, along with other past players, has been accused of discussing potential gameplay with other players prior to the Big Brother: All-Star season in 2020.
How Pre-Gaming Affects A Big Brother Season
Although it seems innocent to talk about the game before the start of a season, pre-gaming can affect how the season plays out. It can ultimately give players an unfair advantage over others who do not have the opportunity to discuss gameplay. Going into the game with an already-formed Big Brother alliance immediately makes players who were not a part of the pre-gaming a target. Despite potentially being a strong competitor, these players’ Big Brother games may end early due to pre-gaming. Not-so-strong players may excel further in the game because they were able to discuss strategies before the start of the season. It’s also not fair to fans who watch the Big Brother live feeds as they are unable to see some of the gameplay unfold.
This is why longtime host Julie Chen Moonves always emphasizes that the players are not allowed to speak to each other until they walk into the house. When players jump on the opportunity to discuss the game before the season they not only alter how the season will play out but also take some of the fun away from the fans watching. With speculation that former Big Brother houseguests may be returning this summer, here’s hoping there is no pre-gaming before their return.
