The Sexy Salad to provide concession, catering needs at Planting Fields

The Sexy Salad of Hauppauge will provide the concession and catering needs at the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in Oyster Bay. The grand opening is Arbor Day weekend, the last weekend in April, during which the park will hold a two-day festival celebrating the importance of trees and environmental conservation.

John Robertson, president of The Sexy Salad, told LIBN that the agreement extends through December, and that he would later “consider an additional five years.”

The Sexy Salad has served both the business and residential communities with breakfast, lunch and catering services since 2003.

The former Gold Coast estate of the W.R. Coe family, Planting Fields Arboretum is a National Register property with over 400 acres of rolling lawns, gardens, woodlands and nature walks.

In the agreement, The Sexy Salad Market Cafe at Planting Fields will serve the catering and concession needs of the park. This includes service at the park’s Hay Barn, which includes a full-service kitchen, service counter, and dining area as well as an outside deck for outdoor events.  Next to the café is the Visitor Center whose front section  will be used for larger events. The maximum capacity at the café and Visitor Center is 250 guests.

The agreement also includes the greenhouse and its garden quadrants, where there is a maximum capacity of 70 guests for cocktail parties and other gatherings. It also includes the Conference Center, which features a large meeting space next to the Hay Barn.

And it includes the Farm, which has a 50-acre multi-purpose area suitable for large outdoor events, including antique shows, car shows, dog shows, corporate picnics and festivals.  There is also the Dahlia Garden for small gatherings, where there is an adjacent lawn area that may be used to set up a tent for additional space.

Coe Hall, however, is managed by an independent organization, and Robertson said The Sexy Salad was encouraged to contact and work with the Planting Fields Foundation to seek and expand its business opportunities at Coe Hall.
