After Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn teamed up to pioneer the R-rated bromantic comedy as a viable blockbuster genre, there were many movies like Wedding Crashers that followed. Wedding Crashers revolves around immature bachelors John Beckwith (Wilson) and Jeremy Grey (Vaughn) who infiltrate weddings they weren’t invited to in order to pick up women. Despite their best efforts to avoid settling down, by the end of the movie, they’ve both found true love in meaningful relationships. Along with the works of Judd Apatow and Kevin Smith, Wedding Crashers helped to create a new subgenre of comedy that subverts the audience’s expectations of its raunchy humor with a surprisingly sweet message.
When it was released in 2005, Wedding Crashers was a sleeper hit. It was met with favorable reviews from critics and grossed more than $288 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). Wedding Crashers arrived at a time when public interest in R-rated comedies was waning, and contributed to an R-rated comedy renaissance. Like any popular movie, Wedding Crashers had plenty of imitators. From the similar bromantic antics of The Hangover to the later Wilson/Vaughn team-up in The Internship to its female-led equivalent Bridesmaids, there are many great movies like Wedding Crashers.
10 The Wedding Singer (1998)
In Adam Sandler’s first collaboration with Drew Barrymore, The Wedding Singer stars the A-list funnyman as Robbie Hart, the titular performer who sings at people’s weddings but can’t seem to find the right partner for himself. When he’s hired to sing at Julia Sullivan’s (Barrymore) wedding, he quickly falls for her and tries to win her heart away from her philandering fiancé. Sandler’s lead character is a quintessential underdog, and he and Barrymore share impeccable chemistry. With Wedding Crashers’ signature blend of grossout gags and heartwarming romance, The Wedding Singer is one of Sandler’s best movies.

9 American Wedding (2003)
The sex-crazed adolescents of the American Pie franchise had started to grow up by the time the third entry, American Wedding, rolled around. After spending the first movie in high school and the second movie in college, American Wedding saw Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) as grown adults getting married. American Wedding is one of the hard-R comedy movies like Wedding Crashers that actually came out before Wedding Crashers. Like the hit Wilson-Vaughin comedy, American Wedding hilariously sets its broad humor and scatological gags against the elegant backdrop of a wedding ceremony.

8 Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
Jason Segel wrote his own starring vehicle with Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He plays Peter Bretter, a TV composer whose long-time girlfriend (Kristen Bell), the star of the crime drama he scores, breaks up with him. In an attempt to move on from the relationship, Peter travels to Hawaii, only to find that his ex and her new beau (Russell Brand) are staying at the same resort. Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a quintessential breakup movie. It shares Wedding Crashers’ anything-goes comedic sensibility but, also like Wedding Crashers, it doesn’t shy away from deeper emotions.
- Available to stream on Peacock
7 The Internship (2013)
The Internship is a movie like Wedding Crashers in a literal sense because it’s headlined by the same comedy duo. The film reteamed Wilson and Vaughn as Nick Campbell and Billy McMahon, a pair of aging guys who lose their jobs and attempt to keep up with a changing marketplace by interning at Google. While The Internship isn’t quite as sharp or focused as Wedding Crashers, it has a lot of fun with its tech industry setting, and Wilson and Vaughn’s on-screen chemistry makes them endlessly watchable.

6 The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005)
Steve Carell got his start as a movie star with the title role in Judd Apatow’s directorial debut, The 40-Year-Old Virgin. When Andy Stitzer (Carell) reveals he’s never had sex, his co-workers set out to help him lose his virginity – but, during the process, he finds true love. Much like Wedding Crashers, The 40-Year-Old Virgin starts out with a raunchy premise about getting laid and ends up being a heartfelt story about falling in love. It established Apatow’s penchant for blending crude comedy with subversive sincerity.
- Available to stream on Fubo, Showtime, and DirecTV
5 Zack And Miri Make A Porno (2008)
Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks star as the title cash-strapped roommates who decide to make an adult film to pay their rent in Zack and Miri Make a Porno, one of Smith’s most rewatchable movies. Not only is Zack and Miri Make a Porno a shamelessly raunchy movie like Wedding Crashers, but its X-rated storyline pushes the raunch even further than Wedding Crashers. Zack and Miri Make a Porno is a perfect example of a vulgar sex comedy that turns out to be a lot sweeter than it seems, as two childhood best friends discover that they’re in love with each other.
- Available to stream on Fubo, Showtime, and DirecTV
4 There’s Something About Mary (1998)
Wedding Crashers subverted the expectations of the usually sappy and schmaltzy romantic comedy genre with its wild, raunchy sense of humor. The Farrelly brothers’ There’s Something About Mary – another early hit that led to the resurgence of R-rated comedies – is a similarly raunchy rom-com. Ben Stiller stars as Ted Stroehmann, a singleton looking for love who decides to track down his high school sweetheart, played by Cameron Diaz, only to find that he’s not the only one who’s madly in love with her. The comedy is just as daring as Wedding Crashers and the romance is just as earnest.
- Available to stream on Hulu, Paramount+, and DirecTV
3 Bridesmaids (2011)
Not every movie like Wedding Crashers is a male-driven comedy. Wedding Crashers’ female-led equivalent, Bridesmaids, stars Kristen Wiig as Annie Walker, a woman trying to finally get her own life on track when her best friend (Maya Rudolph) gets engaged. Like Wedding Crashers, Bridesmaids has plenty of crude humor – including one iconic sequence in which the formal setting of a dress shop provides the backdrop to the messy aftermath of a mass food poisoning – but it also has a tangible emotional core.
- Available to stream on Hulu, Peacock, and DirecTV
2 Old School (2003)
Vaughn teamed up with Wilson’s brother, Luke Wilson, and Will Ferrell for a forerunner to Wedding Crashers’ success. Old School revolves around a group of middle-aged men who start their own college fraternity to avoid a legal loophole in the housing system. This zany premise naturally makes way for plenty of raucous Animal House-style campus antics. But, much like Wedding Crashers, there’s something deeper going on in the story; the frat ends up being a catalyst for these immature guys to grow up and take charge of their lives.
- Available to stream on Paramount+
1 The Hangover (2009)
Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis star in The Hangover as a group of guys who head to Las Vegas for a bachelor party and end up misplacing the groom. The Hangover is one of many movies like Wedding Crashers that followed its box office success. It shares the earlier R-rated comedy blockbuster’s colorful characters and rapid-fire gag rate, as well as its focus on friendship. The Hangover‘s talented cast anchors the film with palpable chemistry, and director Todd Phillips keeps the mystery storyline moving with plenty of clues to the whereabouts of Doug (Justin Bartha).
- Available to stream on Netflix and HBO Max
