Warning: SPOILERS For Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 8 – “Surrender” There’s a lot that’s still unknown about the Changelings’ plan for both Jack Crusher (Ed Speelers) and the corpse of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) in Star Trek: Picard season 3, but episode 8, “Surrender,” provides some further explanation for their intentions. Jack finally comes face to face with Captain Vadic (Amanda Plummer), who talks “in batsh*t circles” about why exactly the Changelings need Jack’s “gifts” for their plot against the United Federation of Planets. Meanwhile, aboard the Shrike, Captain Worf (Michael Dorn) and Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) have discovered the body of Jean-Luc, as well as information on what has been taken from the body and encrypted data as to why it was needed.

By the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 8, the entire cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation is finally reunited to discuss their options. With Frontier Day only hours away, Captain William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) notes that “we’ve got almost no answers.” The data from the Shrike is still being analyzed and the returning Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) sits down with Jack to get to the bottom of his visions, so those answers will surely follow in the next episode. Until then, here’s everything that’s known so far about the Changelings’ plot for Jack Crusher and the corpse of Jean-Luc Picard.

The Changelings’ Plan For Jack Crusher & Jean-Luc’s Corpse In Picard Season 3

At first, it was believed that the Changelings stole Jean-Luc Picard’s body to create a genetically indistinguishable copy with which to infiltrate the Frontier Day celebrations. However, this hypothesis doesn’t hold up to scrutiny, as the evolved Changelings are able to pass blood tests, and have already infiltrated Starfleet to a considerable degree. Discussing Vadic’s plans with Jack in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 8, Jean-Luc suggests that the Changeling has “something more infinitely complicated in mind“. As Jack confronts Vadic on the bridge of the USS Titan-A, he’s told that Vadic needs his “gifts,” implying that it’s his special abilities that the Changelings need to bring the Federation to their knees.

Aboard the Shrike, Worf, and Raffi confirmed that the Changelings didn’t want Picard’s body for duplication purposes. Instead, they’ve taken the portions of Picard’s parietal lobe that were apparently infected with Irumodic Syndrome, a diagnosis that is now in doubt. This means that whatever was in Jean-Luc’s brain is the key to Jack’s powers, but it’s still unclear exactly what the Changelings plan to do with those powers, and whether the removed parts of Picard’s brain were purely for scientific analysis or for some other nefarious purpose.

What We Still Don’t Know About Picard Season 3’s Changeling Plan

The true nature of the Changelings’ plan for Frontier Day is still unknown, all the pieces are there, but they’re yet to slot into place. There are dangling loose threads, such as whether Picard’s body was recovered from the Shrike and brought aboard the Titan before Vadic’s ship was destroyed. As the Changelings appeared to have taken all the material they needed from it, there may have been a decision made to allow Jean-Luc’s organic body to have a Viking-style burial. However, given how little they still know it makes sense for Picard’s body to have been beamed aboard the Titan for further analysis prior to the destruction of the Shrike.

The identity of Star Trek: Picard‘s mystery villain is also unknown, they appear to be a Changeling but also inferred that they were something else. This could imply that The Face (Garth Kemp) is a Puritan who doesn’t see those Changelings experimented upon by Section 31 as pure Founders, but perhaps another old enemy of the Federation is pulling the strings. As Jack Crusher and Deanna Troi prepare to open the red door in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 9, viewers can expect some major revelations about what the Changelings have planned for Frontier Day.
