WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Avengers Beyond #1The Avengers have just faced one of their most potent adversaries yet, and she’s already proven to be strong enough to fight toe-to-toe with the entire team. Anyone who can accomplish something as impressive as taking down the Avengers must be exceptionally powerful and is likely just as dangerous. In Avengers Beyond #1 by Derek Landy, Greg Land, and Frank D’Armata, readers are reintroduced to an enemy who’s gearing up to be a major problem for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
In Avengers Beyond #1, the team is searching for answers as to who is behind the tampering of their emotions and memories. In doing so, they inadvertently come into contact with the Beyonder, the ultra-powerful entity known for his cosmic-scale reality-warping abilities. Unfortunately for the Avengers, the questions don’t stop there, and the Beyonder reveals that the real being they should be worried about is even more powerful than him, and that that being is on their way to Earth. Black Panther and the rest of the team agree to help the Beyonder in finding a peaceful solution, but not before being thrown into battle with one of their toughest villains to date–Tiamok aka the Emissary.
The Avengers Have Finally Met Their Match, But She’s Just The Beginning
This isn’t the first time the Avengers have had to fight Tiamok, and she was just as threatening then. In All-Out Avengers #4, also by Derek Landy, Greg Land, and Frank D’Armata, Tiamok was revealed to be hunting the team in service of a mysterious higher-up. In Avengers Beyond #1, it’s finally revealed who Tiamok works for—the cosmic entity known as the Lost One. The Lost One is the cosmic god and creator of the Beyonders. He was eventually imprisoned by them out of jealousy for his omniscient power, but now he is looking to reclaim his power and take revenge. Tiamok is reintroduced to the team looking for the Beyonder on behalf of the Lost One, and sets into motion what is likely to be the next great threat to humanity. After defeating the team, Tiamok reveals that the Lost One will soon be on Earth to take back the power the Beyonder stole from him, and that the entire planet will be destroyed in the process.
Not only is Tiamok working on behalf of a powerful being, but she herself has also already proven to be a concerning threat to the Avengers all on her own. In her two short appearances so far, Tiamok has shown that she’s able to hold her own against the entire team, and seemingly do so without breaking a sweat. In Avengers Beyond #1, the attempt to stop Tiamok from accomplishing her mission leads to a fight that she not only welcomes, but is shown winning handily against the entire team. The Avengers have faced some of the universe’s most powerful villains in their history as a team, but rarely do they encounter someone who can go up against an entire roster of superheroes alone.
In just one issue, Avengers Beyond has potentially set up some of the highest stakes the team has ever had to face. With the Beyonder fleeing Earth at the end of the first issue, the Avengers are likely on their own in defeating whatever comes next. Not only will the team inevitably come face to face with the Lost One, but if Tiamok is any indication of his power, the Avengers are in for one of their greatest challenges yet.
