Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Dark Knights of Steel #10In DC Comics, any hero called Green Lantern is a force to be reckoned with, and on Earth, they usually become some of the most powerful members of the Justice League. But just because a Green Lantern is powerful, doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll always be on the side of the heroes, and when a member of a powerful species such as a White Martian gets his hands on a Power Ring, he could become unstoppable even for the Justice League.
Dark Knights of Steel #10 by Tom Taylor, Yasmine Putri, and Arif Prianto, finds the newly revealed J’Onn J’Onnz detailing to his captors and would-be allies, Kal-el, Bruce Wayne, and Diana, the downfall of his race, the Green Martians, at the hands of the vicious White Martians. Noting their power and savagery, it’s clear that these alternate Martians are every bit as powerful as the foes the Justice League has faced in the primary continuity. But the end of the issue ups the ante to a whole new level when Protex, the leader of the White Martian horde, murders Luthor, seizing the human’s Green Lantern Power Ring for his own – and threatens the entire Earth in the process.
The White Martians Could Be the Ultimate Villains Of The Dark Knights’ World
Green Lanterns are far from the only powerhouses in the DC Universe, and one of the most dangerous threats the Justice League has ever faced is that of the White Martians. Individually, each White Martian can go toe-to-toe with practically any Justice League member in terms of raw power. With incredible strength, speed, invisibility, telepathy, and so much more, there are very few heroes that could hope to stand against them with any chance of coming out alive. And with all that destructive capacity combined with the nearly limitless potential of a Green Lantern ring, this medieval version of the DC Universe is surely in for a fight like no other.
Even The Most Noble Green Lantern Is A Serious Threat
With powers and abilities rivaling that of even Wonder Woman and Superman, a White Martian with access to a Green Lantern Power Ring would surely be an enemy like no other. And Dark Knights of Steel #10 gives readers just a glimpse at just what that threat looks like. On their worst day, a Green Lantern could still be a match for any fellow Justice Leaguer. And on more than one occasion, Lanterns like Hal Jordan or Jessica Cruz have gone up against their fellow heroes and managed to come out on top. But unlike the traditionally heroic Green Lanterns, it’s highly unlikely that Protex or any other White Martian will even think of holding back, putting these Dark Age DC Comics heroes in quite a tough spot.
Human Green Lanterns like Alan Scott have proved to be incredibly powerful, but when a creature with incredible natural abilities gets to wield a Power Ring they become almost unstoppable. With the White Martians’ physiology combined with the most powerful weapon in the universe, a Green Lantern‘s Power Ring, it’s hard to imagine any opponent walking away unscathed, including the medieval version of Justice League found in Dark Knights of Steel.
Dark Knights of Steel #10 is available now from DC Comics.
