Action star Keanu Reeves is currently tied to several upcoming movies — as well as a TV show. Reeves has been enjoying a massive renaissance in his career over the last few years. Helped by the runaway success of the John Wick franchise, the actor has been put squarely back on the radar of audiences. The hotly anticipated The Matrix Resurrections, which was released in theaters in December 2021, further cemented his return as a Hollywood A-lister.
Keanu Reeves is loved for his immense talent and range. In the past, he’s been able to move from full-on action flicks like Speed and Point Break to sci-fi thrillers like The Matrix trilogy to dramas like The Lake House. He even returned to comedy in Netflix’s rom-com Always Be My Maybe. With the ongoing trend of remakes and revivals, many of Keanu’s classic franchises have been revived, such as Bill & Ted and The Matrix. Whereas once Reeves was criticized for his acting, critics and moviegoers have come to appreciate his charisma and screen presence. But, it’s only going to get bigger and better from now on, with several Keanu Reeves sci-fi movies scheduled to come alongside action projects and TV.
John Wick Chapter 5
Shortly after John Wick Chapter 3 – Parabellum was released in May 2019, it was confirmed that John Wick would be back for more with future projects John Wick Chapter 4 hit theaters in 2023. John Wick 5 has also been confirmed, but was originally slated to be filmed back-to-back with the fourth installment. Keanu Reeves and the rest of the cast, however, got a break between the action-heavy films, and now, the fifth installment isn’t a guarantee. According to Reeves, future John Wick movies are dependent on whether fans want to see more.
If John Wick is back for more, Reeves will obviously reprise his role as the most hunted assassin in the world, John Wick. It’s not clear yet who else from the franchise would return. Reeves has also expressed an interest in appearing in the John Wick TV spinoff The Continental, which will explore the hotel syndicate when it’s not dealing with its favorite customer.
BRZRKR
One of the most personal upcoming Keanu Reeves projects will be the live-action adaptation of BRZRKR, originally a comic book series co-written by him and Matt Kindt, with illustrations by Ron Garney. Reeves is all set to produce the film adaptation, which was officially picked up by Netflix. In addition to producing and starring in the movie, Reeves will also lend his voice to the comic book character “B,” a half-human/half-god, in the spinoff anime series. Both of these projects have only recently been announced and don’t yet have a release date. Fans might even get more comic books (and adaptations) from Reeves in the future. When Keanu Reeves spoke with Screen Rant, he detailed loving the collaborative nature of the comic book process, not ruling a future comic book out.
Rally Car
An apparent throwback to action-focused Keanu Reeves movies like Speed, Reeves’ film Rally Car has been in production limbo for a few years now. As far back as 2017, Rally Car was greenlit but searching for a director, eventually landing on Taken 2 and Transporter 3 director Olivier Megaton. According to a 2017 report from The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves will be playing a former hot-shot NASCAR driver who finds himself in a rally car race in China. There’s no word yet on a release date, casting information, and it’s unclear why there have been delays in moving forward with filming or distribution.
Rain
Reeves is going to be staying in action mode with the television mini-series Rain, based on the books by Barry Eisler. Reeves will serve as the lead of the mini-series as well as one of the show’s producers. Suggesting the influence of John Wick, the future project will see Keanu Reeves playing John Rain, a half-Japanese, half-American contract assassin whose specialty is making it look like his targets died of natural causes. Reeves’ co-stars include Cherry Jones, Corbin Reid, and Owen Kline. As of yet, the mini-series does not have a release date yet, nor has it gone into production.
Past Midnight
Another upcoming Keanu Reeves project set to come to Netflix is Dope director Rick Famuyiwa’s upcoming film Past Midnight. The script will be written by T.J. Fixman (Ratchet & Clank) and produced by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo. Past Midnight sounds like a return to familiar territory for Reeves and entirely new territory for Famuyiwa: “a feature about a new kind of vigilante superhero.” There are no further details on casting or Reeves’ character, but it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on Past Midnight.
Ballerina
The John Wick films have been a major lift for Keanu Reeves’ acting career. Ballerina is a spinoff of the John Wick movies featuring Ana de Armas in the starring role, so it’s only fitting that Reeves would appear to connect the two. De Armas plays a young assassin who sets out on a path of revenge when family members are murdered, not unlike Reeves’ John Wick. Keanu Reeves has said his Ballerina role is a “handoff of stewardship,” and has described wearing the John Wick suit again “briefly,” so his role in the movie might not be extensive, but it will serve to establish Ballerina in the John Wick universe.
Outcome
One mysterious upcoming movie for Keanu Reeves is Outcome. There’s very little known about the upcoming project. No plot details, no filming details, and no other casting details have been released about the movie. In fact, the only information known outside of Reeves being involved is that Jonah Hill will direct Outcome.
Constantine 2
With so many movies inspired by DC Comics released since Constantine first debuted in 2005, fans have wondered if the Keanu Reeves movie would ever get a sequel. Comic book character John Constantine has appeared in other projects, played by other actors, but Reeves’ version of the character might finally get to appear in another project.
Constantine, an exorcist who can see angels and demons that the average human cannot, could return under the new DC film leadership. James Gunn and Peter Safran are now in charge of the upcoming slate of DC movies. While there have been no details about the potential sequel, Keanu Reeves answered a fan in a Reddit AMA about the movie, revealing he had spoken with James Gunn about the possibility of a sequel, and that he hopes to play the character again.
