The Long Island unemployment rate rose in January, after a slight drop the previous month.
The not-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for Long Island in January was 3.4 percent, a full percentage point higher than the 2.4 percent rate in December, according to preliminary numbers from the New York State Department of Labor.
The January rate of 3.4 percent was just a tick lower than the 3.5 percent Long Island unemployment rate recorded in Jan. 2022.
The January not-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for Nassau County was 3.2 percent and the rate for Suffolk County was 3.7 percent, the DOL reports.
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in January, a slight increase from the 4.1 percent rate recorded in December.
New York City had the highest unemployment rates in the state in January, led by the Bronx (7.6 percent); Brooklyn (5.8 percent); Staten Island (5.4 percent) and Queens (5 percent).
Nassau joined Rockland and Saratoga counties with the state’s lowest unemployment rate in January at 3.2 percent, followed by Columbia and Putnam counties at 3.3 percent.
