Renown is a crucial resource that players are actively incentivized to gather in Diablo IV, with rewards not just for the current character but for the sake of their whole account. In addition, Renown in Diablo IV is a reputation system, representing how much the different factions within the game know and respect the player for everything they have done to help.
The five regions in Sanctuary currently available to players in Diablo IV each has its own faction and Renown score. As the player completes tasks in a Region, they’ll be rewarded with a handful of Renown with the Region. One might think slaying monsters and defending the helpless would be worthy of reward, but Diablo IV goes beyond that. Players who want Renown can’t just focus on earning skill points in Diablo IV; they need to go out and explore, discovering the world and destroying the great bastions of evil that have come to infest Sanctuary.
How To Earn Renown In Diablo IV
As of the closed Beta, there are currently six ways to earn Renown in Diablo IV, each task giving Renown related to the region the player is in. Players can find new areas (2 Renown), interact with Altars of Lilith for the first time (5 Renown), unlock waypoints (10 Renown), complete side quests (15 Renown), complete Dungeons (20 Renown), and liberate Strongholds (50 Renown). If these activities seem slow and incremental increases, it’s worth it, especially since the rewards will cross over when playing different classes in Diablo IV, like Rogue or Sorceress.
Each Region’s Renown is split into five tiers, giving the player a lump sum of bonus XP and 10,000 Gold each time they reach a new tier.
They also provide a permanent account-wide reward for the first time a player’s character reaches the relevant tier. This is very useful for players leveling other characters, giving them a hefty power boost as they run through the game again.
Stage |
Renown Total |
Account-wide Reward |
---|---|---|
Stage 1 |
80 Renown |
+1 Skill Point |
Stage 2 |
180 Renown |
+1 Potion Charge |
Stage 3 |
300 Renown |
+1 Skill Point |
Stage 4 |
500 Renown |
+1 Skill Point |
Stage 5 |
800 Renown |
+4 Paragon Points |
The 10,000 Gold the character always gets on a tier up is also really valuable, especially given how expensive respecing Skill Points in Diablo IV can get.
