This post contains general spoilers for The BoysThe Boys has had a lot of character deaths over the course of three seasons, and many of them have been underrated. The Prime Video series is often violent and bloody, its characters unafraid to get their hands dirty as the titular protagonists duke it out with Homelander and The Seven. Some of the show’s deaths are swift, while others are a slow-burn, but they’re all rather grizzly in some way, and have surely caused many fans to turn away or even gag.

Violent deaths on The Boys is par for the course. The show wouldn’t be what it is if it didn’t lean into the brutal kills, which range from pertinent characters like Becca, Billy Butcher’s wife, to civilians simply caught in the crossfire of supes running amok or fighting each other. The Boys’ gorydeath count continues to rise the longer the show goes on, and the level of brutality on display is also elevated. But not every death on the show is given the same level of importance, and there are plenty of them that are understated, especially considering how their effects on the story or individual characters.

10 Mesmer

mesmer the boys

Mesmer, a supe with telepathic powers and a former child star, helped The Boys with Kimiko back in season 1, but turned his back on them rather quickly, revealing their identities to Homelander in exchange for the fame he desperately craved. Of course, this betrayal didn’t sit well with Butcher, who found Mesmer and proceeded to beat him up in a bathroom. It was a gruesome death because the audience, alongside Mesmer, became privy to parts of Butcher’s past. Despite Mesmer’s pleas and desperation, however, Butcher bashes his head into the bathroom sink several times until he dies. It’s one of the first glimpses into what Butcher is truly capable of doing.

9 Lamplighter

lamplighter the boys

Lamplighter, a super with pyrokinetic abilities, was a member of The Seven before Vought demoted him to the position of orderly at a psychiatric facility where Vought was attempting to stabilize Compound V in adults. Despite having killed Grace Mallory’s grandchildren, Lamplighter had a moment of redemption, nearly helping The Boys as an eyewitness to what Vought was doing. It was short-lived, however, as Lamplighter, filled with remorse and still angry with Vought, set himself on fire in The Seven’s conference room. Lamplighter’s suicide was not bloody like so many others, but it was also one of the sadder deaths on The Boys.

8 Crimson Countess

crimson countess the boys

Crimson Countess appeared in The Boys season 3, having previously been the lover of Soldier Boy, the leader of Vought’s supe team Payback who was taken by Russians in the 1980s. Crimson Countess was killed by Soldier Boy, who was angry by her betrayal and admission that she’d never loved him at all. The supe’s death is gruesome as she’s met with the full scope of Soldier Boy’s powers, with Crimson Countess being burned to a crisp after he unleashes an energy blast that not only takes his former lover out, but eviscerates her home as well. Crimson Countess’ death feels like the true beginning of Soldier Boy’s return in The Boys season 3.

7 Aleksy Lutz

aleksy lutz the boys

Aleksy Lutz was another fatality from The Boys season 1. His death seemed set in stone as soon as he stepped foot in Popclaw’s apartment. A pesky landlord who, in the throes of performing oral sex on Popclaw, who was secretly dating A-Train at the time, was crushed by the supe, his head squashed completely under the weight of her thighs. It may have been an accidental death, but it also goes to show the dangers of supes who lose control of their powers. In Popclaw’s case, it was a sign that taking additional Compound V was not a good thing, and could lead to unfortunate death.

6 Kenji Miyashiro

Kenji Miyashiro was Kimiko’s brother. Like his older sister, Kenji was kidnapped, forced to join the army and injected with Compound V. Kenji was reunited with Kimiko in The Boys season 2, but he refused to join the titular characters, still loyal to The Shining Light Liberation Army. Unfortunately for Kenji, Stormfront tracks him and Kimiko, breaking both of Kenji’s wrists and then snapping his neck, killing him. Kenji’s death is not given the same importance as other deaths, but it’s what ultimately lights a fire in Kimiko’s heart and what fueled her revenge against Stormfront. Kenji’s death made Kimiko’s showdown with Stormfront at the end of The Boys season 2 more powerful.

5 Blue Hawk

Blue Hawk is a supe who had a reputation of heavily patrolling Black communities and killing Black people, blaming them for a rise in crime. After paralyzing A-Train’s brother Nathan, the supe gets his revenge on Blue Hawk after The Boys’ Herogasm event is ruined. A-Train drags Blue Hawk by his ankles while he runs down the road, killing him. While Blue Hawk’s time on The Boys was short-lived, his death had a huge impact on A-Train, who suffered from heart failure during the run and received Blue Hawk’s heart during a transplant. A-Train will always carry a part of Blue Hawk with him wherever he goes.

4 Gunpowder

A former member of Payback, Gunpowder was once Soldier Boy’s sidekick. As his name suggests, Gunpowder is enthusiastic about guns and often attends Vought Rifle Association events. Gunpowder refuses to help Butcher, so when he’s confronted a second time, Gunpowder is not ready for Butcher’s powers — thanks to taking V24. Butcher beats Gunpowder up until he reveals Soldier Boy’s death was staged, but Butcher isn’t about to let Gunpowder walk away after everything he’s done, and he slices Gunpowder’s head in two with his heat-vision, ending the supe’s life. Suffice it to say that Butcher’s rage and supe powers are a very dangerous combination.

3 Translucent

translucent the boys

Translucent is one of the first major supes to die, and the first member of The Seven to do so at the hands of Hughie, forever changing him and solidifying his partnership with Butcher and The Boys. Killing Translucent proved difficult because his skin was impenetrable, and seemingly indestructible. However, Frenchie created an “Ass Bomb” that would essentially blow up Translucent from the inside out. It did the trick when Hughie became angry enough to use it, killing Translucent, his body exploding into tiny fragments. It was disgusting, and though Translucent was a minor character in The Boys, his death was forever felt because it had one of the biggest impacts on Hughie’s trajectory.

2 The Acid Vomit Supe

The acid vomit supe, who was never named during his brief time on The Boys, had a unique ability. He could spit up vomit made of acid, though the downside was that it could be used against him. That’s basically how he died. The supe, who was one of the patients at Sage Grove Center, had his face burned off by his own acidic vomit after Kimiko kicked his stomach and chest. It’s not one of the most memorable deaths on The Boys, but it is one of the more revolting and unfortunate ones that tends to get overlooked in the grand scheme of things.

1 The Man Who Gets His Face Ripped Off By Kimiko

the boys kimiko

Kimiko is one of The Boysstrongest supes. In season 2, Kimiko brutally murders a group of men on a job for Cherie, and by extension the off-screen Albanians. In the fight sequence, Kimiko uses her strength to rip one man’s face clean off his head, showing the blood and bone beneath. It’s bloody, violent, and also not talked about enough. Perhaps it’s because the man whose face is ripped off has no name, but it’s a show of Kimiko’s abilities, and the extent to which she can use her powers despite not having wanted them to begin with.
