The MBTI® Of The Bridesmaids Characters

Date:

[ad_1]

Each of the characters from Paul Feig’s classic comedy movie have their own Bridesmaids MBTI type. When Bridesmaids came out in 2011, it was a huge hit. Right away, there was a condescending discussion about whether women could make hilarious movies. To everyone else, that couldn’t have been more obvious. The film has an intelligent and witty screenplay by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, and is directed by Paul Feig. The story, about a woman named Annie (Kristen Wiig) whose best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) gets engaged and makes her feel insecure about her own life and single status, is very relatable.

All of the characters in the movie are well-drawn, and it’s definitely a classic. MBTI stands for Meyers Briggs Type Indicator, and is the moniker used to denote the result of the Myers-Briggs Personality Test. The test records the psychological preferences of the subject, and how that subject views the world and makes decisions. The MBTI letters represent four categories, with each category having two options: extraversion and introversion, sensing and intuition, thinking and feeling, and judging and perceiving. Here are all the Bridesmaids MBTI types for the cast explained.

Ted: ISTJ

Jon Hamm in Bridesmaids

Jon Hamm’s uncredited Bridesmaids character, Ted, is a total jerk. He and Annie have a casual relationship, but calling it a “relationship” at all is pretty much a lie. In the opening scene of the movie, they have an eventful night together, but afterward, he says that it’s “awkward,” but he’d love for her to go home.

Ted’s Bridesmaids MBTI would be ISTJ or “Responsible Realist.” He approaches his situation with Annie in a practical way, and he tells her candidly that she’s not going to be his girlfriend. He’s “detached” and “factual” and explains that they won’t have a serious relationship. Sure, it’s not exactly what she wants to hear, but it could be argued that at least he’s honest about it.

Annie’s Mom: INFP

Annie and her mom on the couch in Bridesmaids

Every character in Bridesmaids has their own quirky sense of humor, including Annie’s mom, played by Jill Clayburgh. In one scene, she tells her daughter, “I signed up to speak at AA tonight, and I just have to.” When Annie says, “Mom, I keep telling you, you’re not supposed to go to those things. You know, you’re not an alcoholic,” her mom says, “Well, only because I’ve never had a drink.” She adds that they’re “inspiring.”

Annie’s mom’s Bridesmaids MBTI would be INFP or “Thoughtful Idealist.” According to her, it’s totally fine to go to an AA meeting when you yourself don’t relate to anyone there since it’s going to be an inspirational experience. She is “compassionate” and “curious” along with being “introspective.”

Brynn: ESFJ

Rebel Wilson in green, sitting on a couch in a scene from Bridesmaids.

One of Rebel Wilson’s best roles is Brynn, Annie’s roommate. In one hilarious scene, she explains to Annie that she actually found her diary and went through it. She said, “At first, I did not know that it was your diary; I thought it was a very sad handwritten book.” Annie’s other roomie is Brynn’s brother Gil (Matt Lucas).

Brynn’s Bridesmaids MBTI is ESFJ or “Supportive Contributor.” These personality types like to help people, and that’s what Brynn thinks she is doing, in her own strange and quirky way. She’s often in Annie’s face, trying to get involved in her life, and she’s “sociable” and “enthusiastic.” Sure, Annie might not appreciate it at all, but Brynn at least tries to be friendly.

Helen: ENTJ

Helen at a jewelry store in Bridesmaids

Rose Byrne’s character Helen and Annie don’t get along since they both want to be Lillian’s true best friend. Helen is pretty insufferable to watch, and there are plenty of quotes that prove Helen got away with too much, but that’s the point, which makes her hilarious.

Helen’s Bridesmaids MBTI is ENTJ or “Decisive Strategist.” She has decided that she will be the best bridesmaid ever, Lillian’s number one friend, and therefore takes control. She hosts the bridal shower, schedules the fittings, and suggests that they go to Vegas. As the official description of ENTJs says, “They like to organize people and resources efficiently in order to accomplish long-term goals and tend to be comfortable with taking leadership roles over others.” Since Helen takes the leadership role from Annie almost immediately, it’s clear that she’s an ENTJ.

Megan: ENFP

Megan Smiling in Bridesmaids

Melissa McCarthy plays Megan, the sister of Lillian’s fiancé Doug. She’s funny, outgoing, outspoken, and always stands up for herself. Megan by far has some of the most memorable scenes and quotes in Bridesmaids, and McCarthy is constantly stealing scenes from the rest of the cast.

Her Bridesmaids MBTI would be ENFP or “Imaginative Motivator.” These personality types have a “zest for life” and are “gregarious” and “expressive.” Megan’s funniest scene, and the one that everyone talks about, is definitely when she and her real-life husband Ben Falcone meet each other on a plane, and she rightly suspects him of being an Air Marshal. Megan is also exceedingly “friendly,” and honest. Truthfully, Megan is arguably the best character in Bridesmaids.

Becca: ISFJ

Ellie Kemper as Becca smiling in Bridesmaids

Ellie Kemper’s character, Becca, has the Bridesmaids MBTI type of ISFJ or “Practical Helper.” She’s bubbly and just got married, which she basically never stops talking about. In one scene, she says, “This is my husband, Kevin.” She continues, “Husband. I like to say it. We’re newlyweds,” and then talks about their “sweetheart honeymoon” to Disney.

She’s this personality type since it seems like she loves to help her husband and others. While she mainly stays in the background, Becca always tries to input helpful information where possible and always has a positive attitude. She might want to be a bit more confident, besides how secure she is with the fact that she’s a wife, of course. She’s both “cooperative” and “loyal,” embodying the ISFJ type perfectly.

Rita: ESTJ

Rita sitting on the plane in Bridesmaids

Rita (Wendi McLendon-Covey of The Goldbergs cast) is Lillian’s cousin, and she’s a hilarious, yet jaded, mother of three sons. As she explains in a hilarious rant, “They are cute, but when they reach that age, oh, disgusting! They smell! They’re sticky! They say things that are horrible.” She then continues talking about blankets: “Disgusting! I cracked a blanket in half! Do you get where I’m going with that?”

Rita’s Bridesmaids MBTI type is ESTJ or “Efficient Organizer.” It’s clear that she’s someone that can be counted on to get things done, especially as a mother of three. She’s “realistic,” “direct,” and “outspoken,” never afraid to ground someone’s expectations or let something pass idly by. She tells it like it is, especially when discussing her sons.

Nathan Rhodes: ESFP

Close up of Officer Rhodes on duty in Bridesmaids

Chris O’Dowd plays the adorable Officer Nathan Rhodes, the police officer who is Annie’s love interest throughout the film. Throughout the film, Rhodes is constantly trying to show Annie her self-worth and tries his best to be a positive force in her life by letting her know that he believes in her and is impressed with all she is capable of.

Rhodes’ Bridesmaids MBTI would be ESFP or “Enthusiastic Improviser,” and this description fits him well: “People with ESFP preferences tend to be adaptable, friendly, and expressive. They enjoy life and being around people.” Rhodes couldn’t be any nicer, and it’s clear that he and Annie are meant to be a couple. His best line: “You’re like the maid of dishonor.” He’s both “adaptable” and “fun-loving.”

Lillian: ENFJ

Maya Rudolph as Lillian in Bridesmaids

An ENFJ or “Compassionate Facilitator” is someone who is “able to get the most out of teams by working closely with team members and make decisions that respect and take into account the impact on others.” That sounds like the Bridesmaids MBTI type of Annie’s best friend Lillian, one of Maya Rudolph’s best roles.

Lillian may be getting married, but she’s still pretty nice about it and is mostly just amazed that it’s happening. Despite the clearly escalating competition between Helen and Annie, she does her best to make sure that all of her bridesmaids get along. In addition, she’s “trustworthy” since she’s been Annie’s best pal for a really long time, and she tries to make sure that her needs and Helen’s are met equally. She’s also “personable” and “warm.”

Annie: ISFP

Annie is distraught as she sits in coach as a fellow airplane passenger looks over in Bridesmaids.

Annie is a great character who has funny scenes, like getting wasted on the airplane to Vegas or her meltdown at Lillian’s bridal shower, and moving ones, like anytime she talks about shutting her bakery down because of the economy.

As a businesswoman, great friend, great daughter, and the best baker around, Annie’s Bridesmaids MBTI would be ISFP or “Versatile Supporter.” She’s stuck in her life and doesn’t know where to go next since she’s got a bunch of failed dreams and goals, but she’s still really kind to the people in her life. She’s “caring,” “sensitive,” and also “reserved.” She has “strong values” and ultimately learns how to be happy and find love with Rhodes in the end, after a few humbling realizations.
