The Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency has given final approval for a package of economic incentives to assist an office renovation project in Westbury.

The incentives go to 875 Merrick LLC, owned by Charles Piluso, for a $3 million renovation of the 43,657-square-foot building at 875 Merrick Ave. across from Eisenhower Park.

The building, which was constructed more than 40 years ago, has been vacant since the departure of its tenant GEICO.

The renovations, aimed at converting the building into a contemporary Class-A office building, will include a new roof, facade, new building systems and the building’s interior, according to an IDA statement.

The project is expected to generate 50 construction jobs and 110 permanent full-time equivalent positions.

“This project has the potential to create more than a hundred new jobs as the building is upgraded and tenanted and bring in new revenues for all the taxing jurisdictions,” Fred Parola, Hempstead IDA CEO, said in the statement.
