The Cast of Rabbit Hole
The star of the show, John Weir, is played by someone who is not unfamiliar to portraying a spy on television, Kiefer Sutherfield. Sutherfield played CTU agent, Jack Bauer, on the show 24. While the roles might seem similar, for Sutherfield there are quite a few differences.
He explains that “the real difference on a show like Rabbit Hole compared to the kind of the different iterations that television is going through – certainly from the beginning of 24 – is that we are not as restricted in what kind of stories we can tell. We are not restricted about how we tell them either, whether that be language or sensuality, or even violence. Those restrictions, especially with streaming, have been lessened.”
It’s clear that Sutherfield is confident that this role was the right fit for him, despite the fact that it may seem similar on the surface to one he has portrayed in the past. It is also clear that the executive producers of the show are equally confident in the casting. Both executive producers on the show, John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, have shared that they knew Sutherfield needed to play Weir before scripts were even written. They knew that the character needed someone very talented because, as Ficarra explains, “John Weir is a very tricky character. He’s oftentimes an unreliable narrator of sorts.”
Joining the talented Sutherfield is Meta Golding. You may know Golding from her impressive work on Empire, Criminal Minds, and House. In Rabbit Hole, she portrays a character named Hailey Winton and has shared that she didn’t fully know what to expect when coming into the role. Golding has said “When I first got the script, I think I got two episodes. At that point, I didn’t really understand whether she was good or bad. But at least I understood the tone of it. The way they wrote Hailey, I could hear her in my mind.” It’s clear from watching the show, that despite her initial confusion about the character, there was no one better to bring Winton to life on screen.
