Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Shadow and Bone season 2.Shadow and Bone showrunner Eric Heisserer has revealed that scripts for a Six of Crows spinoff series have already been completed. Part of the larger Grishaverse created by Leigh Bardugo, Six of Crows takes place two years after the Shadow and Bone trilogy, following a crew of thieves planning an impossible heist. The Shadow and Bone Netflix adaptation introduces the Crows in season 1, giving them an original storyline that sets up their eventual heist in Six of Crows.
Speaking with Comicbook, Heisserer revealed that all eight episodes of a planned Six of Crows spinoff series have already been written. He praises his writing team for crafting the story, which will take place after the events of Shadow and Bone season 2. Check out what Heisserer had to say below:
The Crows absolutely require their own show for that heist, and I know that because we’ve written all eight scripts for that. It’s the best writing my team has done. In part, it’s because it’s the best writing that Leigh [Bardugo] has built for us.
How Will Six Of Crows Impact Shadow & Bone?
With Six of Crows already written, there’s a strong possibility that the Crows will not appear as prominently in a potential Shadow and Bone season 3. Since Six of Crows appears to be the next TV project in Netflix’s Grishaverse adaptation, it’s likely that the show will take place adjacent to future events in Shadow & Bone. If that ends up being the case, then the Crows will likely not show up in future seasons of Shadow & Bone as prominently, especially as Six of Crows is just the first half of a duology.
However, Shadow and Bone‘s future seasons could also take place after Six of Crows, marking a major departure from the books, where the Six of Crows duology takes place two years after the Shadow and Bone trilogy. Due to changes to the Shadow and Bone adaptation in season 2, which featured Alina and Mal separating after The Darkling’s defeat, it’s possible that major timeline shifts will happen in the future as well. The deadly heist Kaz and his team embark upon may happen between seasons of Shadow & Bone, giving the Crows a chance to return before the flagship series ends.
If the Crows do return to the main series, then Six of Crows will become required watching for anyone who wants to fully understand their story in later Shadow and Bone seasons. If Kaz and the Crows do return following their spinoff, then the heist may have larger implications that alter Shadow and Bone‘s final act going into season 3. With all of Six of Crows season 1 currently written, though, it appears Heisserer and his team have a thought-out plan for how Shadow and Bone‘s budding universe will continue to expand.
